Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was recently dealt a two-year suspension from the octagon for a failed drug test. That being said, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida does not believe Werdum took performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) as the cause.
Werdum has tested positive for trenbolone and its metabolite epitrenbolone. Lyoto Machida failed a drug test back in 2016 that forced the former champion to serve a lengthy suspension of his own.
Now, however, “The Dragon” has left the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and signed with competing promotion Bellator MMA. Speaking to agfight.com, Lyoto Machida explained that he believes Fabricio Werdum is innocent of taking PEDs.
“It has been tested 25 times and nothing ever happened. He did these tests, ten days later he did another test and came clean. And before that, another examination also came clean. It does not make sense in my conception.”
