In last weekend’s UFC 216 co-main event, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson pulled off a never-before-seen submission in his title fight against Ray Borg.
Elevating his opponent off the mat from the clinch position, Johnson would do a mid-air transition to an armbar and finish the fight to retain his title.
It was an amazing finish, one perfect to break Anderson Silva’s record with. However, despite everyone’s wishes it was the first of it’s kind, it was not.
That’s because in the early 90’s, BJJ legend Rickson Gracie was landing the move regularly, as evidenced by the video above.
