Conor McGregor haters are going to love this one, because, despite being inactive in the Octagon for over a year, McGregor just went up in the UFC’s official rankings.
Now, the #2 ranked best pound-for-pound fighter behind Demetrious Johnson, Conor McGregor surpasses GSP, and is well ahead of UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.
Conor McGregor became the first ever dual weight champion in UFC history when he took out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, to become the UFC lightweight champion as he was already UFC featherweight champion.
The UFC would go on to make McGregor choose a division to reign over, and stripped the “Champ Champ” of his 145 pound belt.
Conor McGregor would go on to fight Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring, his only fight in 2017. Yet, despite losing that bout, and despite his inactivity inside the cage, McGregor got a promotion in ranking.
Notably, Tony Ferguson is on the list at #10. Cris Cyborg is on the list at #9 and Max Holloway is in the #4 position. All dominant fighters on 10 or more fight win streaks. The same however, can not be said for Conor McGregor.
The UFC’s rankings are often critized, but have a look for yourself on the latest release of the pound for pound standings, and let us know if you agree.
