UFC legend and former lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar can add hero to his list of life-time accomplishments.
But, unfortunately we’re sure he’d rather not. That’s because during a beautiful beach day with his family, just two-weeks ago, Frankie Edgar had a life changing incident occur.
What started out as just another day at the beach turned into a full-blown tragedy. With his children there, Frankie Edgar rushed to try and save a drowning woman’s life. By the time he was able to secure her on the beach and out of the water, it was already too late. The woman had died.
Edgar recounts the tragic incident with The MMA Hour, and admits he has a hard time getting the image out of his head.
It’s a sad story, one the Edgar draws on now as a reminder for how precious life really is.
Here’s some of the highlights from Frankie’s interview on the matter:
“We went out there went to the beach. Lifeguards aren’t on duty [that day]. It was swim at your own risk.”
… Later on I see my buddy playing by the water. My kids go down to play with his kids. And we’re just BS’ing.
That’s when the former UFC champion said he noticed some commotion in the water, and rushed down to try and help.
“Some woman, she was unconscious. We brought her up to the beach. She did not look good when I grabbed her.”
“Got her on the beach. People started coming and surrounding her. It was a miserable scene.”
“… Her boyfriend was there. He was miserable. He slammed his head on the ground crying.”
“She did not make it unfortunately.”
“It was a pretty rough day. It was an eye opening day.”
“I still think about it. I still have that image in my head. You got to hug the ones you love all the time.”
Our thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of those who lost. R.I.P.
