Two welterweights are throwing down inside the octagon in Sydney, Australia tonight, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is inside the Qudos Bank Arena for UFC Fight Night 121.
Featured on the night’s main card, welterweights Jake Matthews and Bojan Velickovic are going toe-to-toe for division supremacy.
The first round opened up with a touch of the gloves, before Matthews went for a swift takedown over his opponent. Velickovic managed to resist the takedown attempt and punished his opponent with some damaging elbows to the head.
Matthews finally managed to get his opponent to the ground, but Velickovic quickly rocketed to his feet. Matthews retaliated by pressing his opponent back against the fence.
This time around, Velickovic was dragged down to the canvas by his opponent. Matthews was quickly pulled into Velickovic’s guard, but the fighter managed to land a little ground and pound in the process.
In the final moments of the round, Velickovic made his way back to his feet.
The fight quickly found its way on the mat in the opening moments of the second round. Velickovic locked in a guillotine attempt on his opponent from the top position, but was unable to get the submission. The fighter then managed to get the back of Matthews, with the fighters entered a fight for hand control.
Velickovic lost his hooks over his opponent, allowing Matthews to rocket to his feet. From their, Velickovic entered a clinch with his opponent and landed a few good knees. Matthews escaped the clinch and the two MMA warriors entered an exchange from the center of the octagon.
Velickovic attempted to throw a head kick, but it was blocked by Matthews.
The final round kicked off with Matthews earning a quick takedown over Velickovic. Velickovic exploded back to his feet before Matthews managed to deal any damage. Velickovic managed to get Matthews to the ground and take the fighter’s back.
Matthews then managed to reverse the position and make his way to the full guard of Velickovic. Matthews managed to land some serious damage from the half guard, before taking the back of Velickovic.
However, the fighter was unable to capitalize on the moment before the end of the fight.
