Well, the time has finally come. UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is set to defend her title from former bantamweight title holder Holly Holm. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in Las Vegas, Nev. tonight, Dec. 30, for UFC 219. Inside the T-Mobile Arena, Cyborg and Holm will be going toe-to-toe in the night’s main event. Here is a look at the exciting UFC results from the highly anticipated title fight.
The first round kicked off with a blast. The crowd cheered for Holly Holm, as the former bantamweight champion stepped forward for a quick combination. Cyborg closed the distance on the fighter, but Holm tossed the champion to the ground.
Cyborg made her way back to her feet, but was immediately pressured into the fence by Holm. Making her way back to the center of the octagon, Cyborg and her opponent entered a short exchange for the Las Vegas crowd.
With just over two minutes left in the round, Holm continued to circle Cyborg and dish out a series of punch combinations to her opponent.
In the moments of the opening round, Holm set off a kick to the body of Cyborg just before the sound of the bell.
Holm opened the second round with another series of punch combinations, as the fighter circled her opponent in the center of the octagon. Cyborg retaliated with a strong kick to the body, but Holm continued to push the pace with her jabs and constant footwork.
Holm then pressured Cyborg into the fence, before letting the fighter out of the clinch and returning to the center of the octagon with just over two minutes left in the round.
The two MMA warriors found themselves against the cage, as Holm held the dominant position over her opponent from the clinch.
After getting off of the fence, Cyborg ended the round with a few strong right hands before being pushed back into the clinch against the fence.
Neither competitor appeared gassed as the fight made its way to the third round. This time, Cyborg entered the clinch with Holm and pressured the fighter against the fence. However, the former bantamweight champion was able to make her way back to the center of the octagon before suffering too much damage.
With half of the third round now in the books, Holm began increasing the frequency of her headkicks as she pummeled her opponent with strong combinations. However, Cyborg retaliated with some powerful counters of her own.
Cyborg began putting on the pressure, striking Holm with a strong right that put the fighter on her back foot. Still, neither fighter backed down from the exchange in the final moments of the round. This fight has made it to the championship rounds.
The fourth round kicked off with Cyborg walking down her opponent with a collection of stunning punch combinations and knees. Still Holm retaliated with some tough strikes of her own, as the fighter began once again circling Cyborg.
With just under two minutes left in the round, Holm entered the clinch with Cyborg and pressured the fighter into the fence. However, the fighters quickly made their way back to the center of the octagon.
The two MMA warriors ended the round standing, each showing some serious damage from their octagon war.
The final round kicked off with Holm and Cyborg keeping up their brutal pace of striking. Holm began throwing some serious power behind her punches and kicks, as Cyborg continued to offer her own tough counters to the former bantamweight champion.
Reaching the midpoint of the final round, Holm began to pour on the pressure. But, Cyborg refused to back down to the relentless onslaught of punch combinations.
Holm pressed the reigning champion against the fence in the final moments of the round, but was unable to get a finish from the position. This championship fight has gone the distance.
