Mike Dolce Has A Solid Plan To End The UFC’s Problem Of Fighters Missing Weight

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) may be home to some of the most talented mixed martial artists in the world, but that does not mean that the promotion does not suffer certain issues. For one, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion is not immune to the issue fighters face with weight cuts in the sport. Former UFC champions such as Johny Hendricks have formed reputations for having issues making weight for their fights.

UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov was rushed to the hospital for weight management issues earlier this year, forcing the fighter out of a interim title fight with Tony Ferguson. Outside of the UFC, MMA fighters on both the professional and amateur level have suffered serious injury from the practice. Some competitors have even passed away due to weight cuts gone wrong. With all of that in mind, top level trainer and strength and conditioning coach Mike Dolce believes he has an answer for the issue.

Taking to Instagram, Dolce suggested that the UFC penalize fighters that miss weight on an entirely new level.

The famed nutrition coach suggest the following for those who violate their contracts and miss weight.

“Miss weight under 3 pounds and get a mandatory 6-month suspension.

“Miss weight over 3 pounds and get a MANDATORY 12-month suspension.

“Miss weight by 0.01+ pounds and 50% of total purse goes to opponent.”

“Don’t talk about it. Be about it. If health and safety is truly the goal; if a fair playing field is truly the goal; stop rewarding unprofessional athletes for breaking their contracts. #weightcut #contract #rules #honor #professional”
