Frank Trigg is a former title challenger in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The mixed martial arts veteran has put on a storied career in the sport mixed martial arts. Putting on a career record of 21-9, the retired mixed martial artist has taken on some of the toughest opponents inside the cage. That being said, Trigg found himself inside the octagon yet again on Saturday night. This time around, Trigg wasn’t wearing fight short. He was in all black.
UFC Fight Night 123 went down Saturday night, Dec. 9, inside the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. During the night of fights, Frank Trigg made his debut as a referee for the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion. While Trigg may have debuted as a referee with the UFC on Saturday night, the performance was hardly Trigg’s first duty as a referee.
Appearing on The MMA Hour, Frank Trigg revealed that he had to put in some serious time before he was offered a shot at refereeing for the UFC. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Trigg explained that he had put in 500 fights as a referee looking to learn the trade before getting a chance to work inside the octagon.
With that in mind, the MMA veteran made his goal of reffing a UFC fight on Saturday night.
