UFC welterweight Colby Covington has been receiving some heat as of late for his controversial statements in Sao Paulo, Brazil and his confrontation with former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. That being said, a video of the fighter from before his UFC days has now surfaced. Covington can be seen seemingly acting just as cocky as ever.
Covington first drew the ire of many fight fans, as well his some of his teammates, when he made a controversial statement at UFC Fight Night 119 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Directly after earning a unanimous decision victory over Brazil’s own Demian Maia, Covington referred to Brazil as a “dump” and the Sao Paulo crowd as “filthy animals.”
Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum would later have a physical altercation with the fighter over the statements. Werdum assaulted Covington with a boomerang, striking the fighter with the object.
Covington would go on to press charges against the former title holder, gaining more heat from his teammates and fans. Now a video of Covington wrestling from before his days in the UFC has surfaced to the internet.
