Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been on a collision course for years. Still, the two mixed martial artists have yet to meet inside the octagon.
Most recently, Ferguson was set to face off against Nurmagomedov at UFC 223. The two fighters were locked in to compete for the undisputed UFC lightweight title.
However, Ferguson tore his LCL when he tripped over a cable during a recent media event. Consequently, the interim champion was pulled from the fight.
Now Nurmagomedov is set to throw down with UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in the night’s main event. With that in mind, Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been scheduled to fight on three different occasions as well.
It all started back in 2015. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were scheduled to fight on the card of the The Ultimate Fighter season 22 finale. However, Nurmagomedov pulled out of the fight on two months notice after citing a rib injury.
The fighters were then rescheduled to throw down at UFC on FOX 19 in 2016. This time, Ferguson backed out on 11 days notice after suffering an illness that caused fluid and blood to collect in his lungs.
In 2017, “The Eagle” and “El Cucuy” were once again rescheduled. This time, the fighters were set for UFC 219. On just a days notice, the fight was cancelled.
Nurmagomedov was forced off the card after failing to appear at the official weigh-ins for the event. The fighter was instead being rushed to the hospital after suffering weight management issues.
Finally, the two mixed martial arts warriors were set to fight in the upcoming card UFC 223. However, that has also since ended in a cancellation.
