TagMiesha Tate
Miesha Tate (born August 18, 1986) is an American Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Primarily known for her grappling, Tate became a wrestler while attending High School in Tacoma, Washington and won a state championship during her senior year in 2005. She began her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2007, and won the bantamweight championship of the Freestyle Cage Fighting promotion in 2009. Tate gained more mainstream recognition in 2011, when she won the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship, and also for her heated rivalry with former UFC champion Ronda Rousey. Following her loss to Amanda Nunes, Tate retired from the sport.
“I’m really happy in the retirement, honestly. I’ve just been really enjoying myself and figuring out a little bit more about who I am beyond Miesha the fighter. It’s been a very interesting process, so I’m really enjoying that. I don’t have any plans to come back, or even any desire to. So unless that drastically changes, I don’t see myself going back in there. It’s an all-or-none sport. It’s got to be 110 percent, or not at all for me. So unless something makes me want to get back in there like a crazy person, I won’t be.” Miesha Tate said when asked about her retirement.
