You will be hard pressed to find anyone on the planet who knows the fighting mentality of UFC mega star Conor McGregor better than John Kavanagh. And now, Conor’s head coach believes he’s lost the obsession with fighting, following his historic Floyd Mayweather payday.
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor became the most paid man in UFC history when he crossed over to boxing for a one-off stint against Mayweather. The UFC star would end up getting stopped in that fight, but cashed out a reported $100 Million for his efforts.
As nature takes it’s course, and McGregor became rich beyond measure, the hunger to fight is what many fans worry about.
Now, in a new interview with The Chisanga Malata of Express Sport, Conor’s head coach says he no longer sees his fighter obsessing over the fight game.
Kavanagh is comparing Conor’s mentality following his loss to Mayweather with his mentality following his loss to Nate Diaz.
According to the SBG Ireland leader, Conor was ready to return to action ASAP following his submission loss to Diaz. However, it now appears as if McGregor is content in his latest efforts. A new first for his head coach to deal with.
Check it out:
“I think it’s different. After the Nate loss, it was an obsession.
“I don’t see that same level of interest in the Mayweather rematch. “Not that he would turn it down if it was offered. But certainly not in the same way that he was for the Diaz fight.”
It’s an interesting take from Johm Kavanagh, the man who knows Conor best, but is it cause for concern?
McGregor has recently stated that he is going to pass up the opportunity to box again, in favor of a return to the UFC.
